"For those who imagine such
an important wine destination to be a bastion of pomp and
snootiness,
where tuxedoed
captains dangle silver tasting cups from chains around their
necks and arrive at your table spouting hyperbole, Strawberry
Hill has a few other surprises. For instance, the sommelier -
loquacious owner Dennis Kerek - is likely to greet you in a red
T-shirt, jeans, and jogging shoes. His son Chip is
even mellower, a master of the soft sell who refers to many of
the West Coast wine-makers on the list as "good buds."

From the outside at the five-point intersection of Mulberry,
Vine and West Strawberry Streets, the red brick building presents an imposing
structure
reminiscent of a big city “grand dame.”
Diners and wine enthusiasts step into Strawberry Hill
by passing through an entrance encased in an immense wooden barrel. A treasure
trove of interior
architectural treatments immediately draws you in…antique barn siding,
gleaming brass fixtures, stained glass, Vermont slate, a “two sides
exposed” fireplace and a litany of Strawberry Hill art. Gleaming in
the center of it all is Lancaster’s only polished granite bar.
Your hosts, Dennis Kerek, son Chip and daughter Karen, will personally
greet you, seat you at the perfect table and present the patented Strawberry
Hill “first
impression” (a guarantee of a great dining experience.) Personal attention,
enthusiasm and an aversion to stuffiness. Count on these Kerek attributes
to culminate in a highly enjoyable evening.
